2SL Planetary Lab mill was designed for conducting of mechanical-chemical reactions during the grinding process.
Planetary mechanism provides grinding media movement in impact mode inside the drums.
(Alternative modes vortex, impact-shear, attrition, could be simulated changing central axis shaft/drums rotation speed ratio).
The RPM of the central axis is 1000 rpm. It provides acceleration of grinding media up to 150 g(1500 m/sec2). Planetary mill drums are sealed & water cooled.
The mill is controlled by frequency inverter & custom software.
It allows, to assign the mode of operation of the mill, and monitor the grinding parameters, such as, the required power, water input and output temperature, and monitoring the temperature of the engine.
The measured parameters are recorded on line, which allows conducting the analysis of the processes taking place and selection of the modes of synthesis and milling. According to the input & output water temperature difference, observation of chemical processes of heat liberation taking place in the drums is possible. Especially clearly appears the reaction of Self-Propagating High Temperature Synthesis.
The mill has been tested in different reactions & processes. Such as mechanical- chemical synthesis of beta-FeSi2 alloyed with cobalt or aluminum, in order to facilitate thermo electrical properties. Synthesis of barium titanate (BaTiO3) alloyed with Nb2O5 in quantity of 0.003 at.%, to provide semiconductor properties.
Also clinker grinding for strength properties analysis of the obtained cement was carried out. Silica sand (<5mm) grinding in 2SL planetary mill produced P95 (95% under) 1 micron size after 2-3 minutes of grinding. 2SL planetary mills are used already in 15 scientific institutions
